The Measurement Set
DC voltage spans 400 mV to 1000 V at ±1.5%, and AC voltage 400 mV to 750 V at ±1.8%. DC current runs from 4 mA to 10 A at ±2.0%; AC current is limited to the 400 mA and 10 A positions at ±3.5%. Resistance reaches 400 MΩ at ±5.0%.
Two ranges make the VC9805 useful beyond plain voltage checks. Capacitance reads from 40 nF to 400 µF at ±5.0%, which covers the run capacitors and start capacitors you meet in appliance and HVAC work. Frequency reads to 4 MHz at ±5.0%, enough to verify oscillator output and drive signals that a basic meter cannot see at all. First, non-contact voltage detection. When you approach an unknown junction box, one sweep near the terminals tells you whether the circuit is live before you connect leads. It is a cheap insurance policy, and it is the reason a meter with NCV often replaces one without it.
Second, auto power-off and data hold. The meter sleeps itself after a set idle time instead of draining the 9 V 6F22 battery, and data hold freezes a reading when the probe is in a position you cannot watch. Small features, but they are what keeps a bench meter alive after a year of shop use.

For laboratory-grade readings you would look at a 6000-count instrument, and if you need clamp-style current on a live conductor, a clamp meter is the right tool, not a bench multimeter.
